Frequently Asked Questions

Why is SWPH a cost-effective and secure solution?
In the current economic downturn and fierce online competition, every business needs to think in terms of scalable, foolproof and high-performing solutions. If this trinity can be achieved cost-effectively, it is a trump card in the hands of businesses.

Think about it: for a single programming hourly fee, you get a month of outstanding service, you don’t have to pay a dedicated professional to run it, and you get the world’s most advanced technology with 24/7 monitoring.

It’s a 100% guarantee that you will always be online on competitive terms, with nothing for you to do and free to concentrate on other operational or business matters.

What is a WordPress-specific hosting service?
It means that the hosting service is specifically configured only according to the specificities of the WordPress system, in order to ensure that the website can operate in the fastest, safest and most secure conditions possible. All hardware and software configurations are 100% WordPress-enabled, ensuring that the website is optimised to keep it competitive.
What is the difference between managed and fully managed hosting?
A managed WordPress hosting service means that the website receives a fine-tuned service for the WordPress environment that supports the website’s operation. In return, the subscriber is responsible for all aspects of the website, including regular updates, security checks and website maintenance.

However, the fully managed hosting service also provides additional services to prevent problems related to WordPress maintenance. One such service is full-service maintenance, which includes checking and verifying updates.

SWPH takes care of all the technical aspects of your website’s operation, so you don’t have to deal with it in any way and there are no technical risks involved.

The WordPress system is constantly being improved, so updates to the system, template and plugins are constantly being made, as they support each other to work securely and optimally.

So, the advantage of SWPH fully managed hosting is that
You don’t have to deal with the technical aspects of your website
You don’t have to pay a developer to take care of it
Your website always uses the latest technology
Your site is managed by experts, so you get continuous and stable operation, speed and security

Is my current web hosting provider not hosting my website?
Common hosting providers provide a shared VPS environment that can run almost any web application, such as content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc.). So, it does not take into account the specificities of the website’s framework and is therefore not configured for the most optimal, fastest operation. And a shared server means that a number of websites are hosted on a single computer, and the websites on the server machine take up the computer’s resources from each other, limiting the functionality of the other websites.

They typically use outdated technology to maximise profits. They do not deal with the content hosted on them and therefore do not provide a meaningful service.

Why is SMART WP HOSTING better than a professional hosting service?
With our comprehensive, stable hosting service, designed for WordPress, you can finally really sit back and relax: your website will be fast and stable, with hacker-proof protection, ongoing maintenance and a high level of technical support.

SMART WP HOSTING is not just a web hosting service, it’s a comprehensive hosting service: thoroughly tested and professional extensions that meet our highest professional standards, fast and competent support, and a website building framework are all yours when you choose us.

Why is it worth switching from my existing hosting?
SWPH provides your website with the stable environment and reliable online presence that is now essential if you want to maintain the long-term competitiveness of your business. We also provide professional customer support, so that we can deal with your problems in a timely and professional manner, and even provide you with developer support.

In addition, SWPH is a very cost-effective solution, and not just because of the hosting fees – we provide licensed extensions and templates that would cost your business several times more than our annual fee to purchase.

What if I don't have a WordPress website?
SMART WP HOSTING specializes exclusively in hosting WordPress websites and WooCommerce web stores. If you would like to enjoy the convenience and benefits of SWPH’s fully managed service to focus on your business goals, we can offer you alternatives to hosting your website with us.

However, these alternatives will definitely require that we migrate your website or web store to the WordPress framework, either by rebuilding the existing website design in WordPress or by implementing a renewed or different design.

We can estimate the time and financial costs of this process after a preliminary assessment, so that you have a complete picture of all the factors involved in the conversion to make the right decision.

Can there be any obstacles to transferring the website?
Our PERSONAL packages have absolutely no barriers when it comes to WordPress websites.

However, in the case of our standard services (BASIC, PRO, PRO+ packages), there may be a number of such factors, which can be reflected in the plugins, templates, custom developments and interfaces used, among others.

How long will it take to transfer my website to SMART WP HOSTING?
The exact duration of this will always depend on the website, but ideally you should be able to migrate your website to SWPH in as little as 3 working days, provided there are no compatibility issues.
What does the cost of website migration depend on?
The cost of migrating a website depends on a number of factors. When calculating the price, we take into account how complex your website is, what templates and plug-ins you use, whether the website operates with custom development, etc.

As a first step in the migration process, we will conduct a free survey to identify these factors, assess the technical requirements for migrating your website and the amount of work required, and send you a personalised quote.

Why Divi and Genesis, and why not anything else?
SMART WP HOSTING is one of the most reliable hosting providers. One of the pillars of this is that we do not allow any templates or plugins from unknown sources to be used in our standard packages (BASIC, PRO, PRO+). Only templates and plugins that we have pre-selected and technically vetted allow for a high level of security control.

Divi and Genesis developers have been present for years with market leading knowledge, high quality of service and a huge user base.

It is also important to note that the look and feel is not determined by the template. With the use of CSS and developer input, any custom requirements and development can be achieved.

What if I want to use a different template?
Other templates can only be used for our PERSONAL packages. If you have chosen either our BASIC, PRO or PRO+ packages, only Divi, Genesis (soon Elementor) templates are available. This is because they are pre-selected and technically tested templates to guarantee excellent performance, reliability, stability and security.

If you still want to stick to your template, we offer you our PERSONAL or PERSONAL+ packages, where you can use our hosting service without any restrictions.

I am not yet familiar with the Divi/Genesis/Elementor template. Can I get help?
We will of course provide a user manual.

However, as these are the most popular templates, there are plenty of tutorial videos, technical material and blogs on the web that can also help you learn about the templates.

I am currently using a different template, how can I edit it in Divi/Genesis/Elementor?
If you are now using a particular template on which your web pages are built, then unfortunately changing the template will cause the look to fall apart in most cases. This is because each template is built differently and therefore cannot inherit the appearance and style (CSS) settings of the previous template.

For this reason, we do not recommend randomly switching or replacing a template with another template at all.

If you want to edit your website with a different template, you will have to rebuild the appearance and content structures of the website with the new template you have chosen. To do this, watch the video below.

Can I implement a custom design for the site?
Of course, there’s nothing to stop this, anything can be done in the Divi, Genesis and (soon Elementor) templates without restrictions. The look and feel of the website requires front-end work, so regardless of the template, it is possible to implement a custom look and feel with developer assistance using the CSS programming language.
What if I am currently using an extension that is not available here?
We will look at the extension in question functionally and see if there are any of our current extensions that can replace the functionality in question.

If there is none, we will look for a solution that we have qualified that can meet our operational and security requirements. If not, we will look at alternative solutions.

Why does SWPH use these extensions?
What matters most to us is that your site is secure and reliable, and we know that the plugins we use can make sure this happens. One of the cornerstones of SMART WP HOSTING’s reliability is that we do not allow the use of any templates or plugins from unknown sources (unqualified developers). Exceptions to this are our PERSONAL, PERSONAL+ and WOOCOMMERCE Go packages!

Only our pre-selected and technically vetted templates and plugins allow for a high level of security control. The plugins we offer are reliable from a security and operational point of view, have a known developer background and the quality of the developed plugin is in accordance with WordPress standards.

I am not familiar with these extensions. Can I get help?
Of course, we’ll help you find out more about the plugins we use, so you can see for yourself why they’re worth using.

You’ll find a description of how to use the plugins via our chatbot, and if you have a specific question, we’ll find a description and/or tutorial video to help you get up and running.

Will there be other extensions?
It is important to us to meet our customers’ needs, so we pay special attention to assessing them and continuously expanding our offer based on the needs that arise.

If there is a functional need that you require, you can always let us know via our chatbot and we will look at your needs and see what solution we can provide to meet them.

For our PERSONAL, PERSONAL+ and WOOCOMMERCE Go packages, there are no restrictions on the extensions used.

Do I have to pay for premium extensions?
As part of our service, you don’t have to pay extra for extensions, so you can use all the premium extensions we offer free of charge.

In case you want to outsource the operation of your website and request a full data export, the export will include the latest version of all extensions used, but we do not provide a license key for them.

You can request a full data export from us at any time, but to avoid abuse, you can only get a discounted administration fee of 5.000 HUF after 1 year of continuous subscription. Within one year it is 100.000 Ft.

Why should a WordPress website be maintained?

The WordPress framework is a fast, secure system used by millions of websites, including ibm.com, bloomberg.com, booking.com, teamviewer.com, tripadvisor.com, etc.).

However, in 2018, 90% of hacker attacks on content management systems were directed against WordPress websites. The easy vulnerability of WordPress websites is made possible by the lack of maintenance caused by lay users. The primary goal of hacker attacks is to obtain data (users, form entries, purchase data), with the secondary goal of placing advertisements and ransomware on the site, through which they can launch further attacks on the further infected machines of site visitors.

The WordPress framework is an open source platform that is constantly being developed to provide website owners with a more stable and secure system. The problem can start when WordPress updates are not tracked in time or at all by plugins installed from all sorts of random sources, thus creating a “gap in the shield” effect that allows hackers to try to hack.

Maintenance is a key factor in the security and stability of WordPress websites, and therefore plays an increasingly important role.

A well-maintained website is stable, without plugin crashes and downtime.

Why build your website on an international cloud platform?
Many hosting providers define themselves as cloud hosting providers, twisting the meaning of “cloud hosting”, but locally based server farms cannot compete with large giga providers such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.

Beyond the high-end server infrastructure, a significant advantage of cloud technology is its redundant network spanning continents. In practice, this means that in the event of a problem at any server centre in the entire cloud network, the website is not at risk of going down due to a malfunction, as the server farms in the network share hardware resources. So, the downed servers are taken over by machines in server centres in other global locations.

In addition, thanks to this, the website always has the right resources in the background to ensure reliable operation, regardless of the number of visitors.

Why is WordPress auto update not enough?

What is auto-update?
Auto-update allows you to update your WordPress system, templates and plugins automatically, so the latest update is installed without manual intervention.

What is the problem with auto-update?
It may be an obvious solution, but it can cause a lot of headaches as it happens in the background without your knowledge. A typical problem is that when a WordPress system update arrives, the installed plugins/templates do not track the changes in the WordPress update, resulting in clashes between plugins, functionality issues, and/or inaccessibility of the website.

In many cases it is cumbersome to trace what is incompatible with the update. This requires external expert intervention and a lot of time. During this time, the website will be unavailable or malfunctioning.

Of course, the WP update may also contain bugs, so it is advisable to install it only after a manual scan at first, and for major version changes (e.g. from 1.x to 2.x) it is worth waiting for the first patch package (e.g. 2.1) and then scan, test and install it.

How does normal data backup/backup work and why is it not enough?
It is now available as a basic service from hosting providers to provide daily web hosting backups, which guarantee that in case of a problem, the website can be restored with daily changes. In practice, however, traditional backup is often not a backup in the event of a problem, as a successful backup restore is much more than just pressing the restore button.

What happens during a general backup?
In general, during a backup, everything that is available on the storage is backed up, e.g. mail, data of all websites on the storage, applications, etc. Partial data recovery is not possible in many cases.

These create additional restore complications, which further delay the recovery of the website or web store.

What is the difference between managed and fully managed hosting?
A managed WordPress hosting service means that the website receives a service fine-tuned for the WordPress environment that supports the website’s operation. In return, the subscriber is responsible for all aspects of the website, including regular updates, security checks and website maintenance.

However, the fully managed hosting service also provides additional services to prevent problems related to WordPress maintenance. One such service is full maintenance, which involves checking and verifying updates.
